8/2 Rotary Luncheon
Sent: August 6, 2010
Many apologies for the tardiness of the newsletter -- been busy taking care of lightening damage here at the hotel for the past two days!
We had a nice crowd for the begining of August, including guests Lindsey Barnhouse, Tom O'dell (speaker) and Russ Rittgers. Thanks for joining us!
We had a new voice on the prayer today. Larry Willard did a lovely job in place of Mike McGreevy, who is "across the pond" exploring his Irish roots.
LOTTERY
Dick Brandt stepped into Willard's slot with the lottery and gave $13 to either Doug Fisher or the whole table (not sure which it was), but they didn't get a chance yet to pull for the new BIG POT of $13 -- no new deck of cards were available. We'll have to do that next week.
SGT AT ARMS
Larry Kienzle started the day by announcing the entire $13 lottery pot was donated back to the club. He also had an advance $1 from Larry Willard who had to leave early. Larry also fined himself $1 for having his phone ring during lunch.
Larry hit Bill Marion and Jake for something to do with the recent Clinton wedding, but their infraction wasn't clear on the other side of the room. Jake also paid a buck for leaving early. Kathy Krumlauf was fined for her faux pas with drinks, and John Smith was late (BIG surprise!).
Valery paid a buck for her birthday this month. Lucy Burcham announced that the Dynamic Stars took a 1st and 2nd place at the State Fair; Mark Hamon has a birthday and anniversary this month, and Kathy Krumlauf had a wonderful beach vacation, and is glad to be home (like we really believe that!).
ANNOUNCEMENTS
T-shirts will be available at next week's meeting - still time to get your info to Joe to order a polo if you want one, but hurry!
Next week's program : Marion Riggs
8/16: Highway Clean Up
8/23: District Governor's visit
PROGRAM
Kathy Krumlauf brought us a very interesting program, presented by Tom O'Dell, Director of Tri-County Mental Health. Tom told us about his hobby of Geocaching.
From the looks of his handouts, there are lots of participants, even right here in Hocking County. All you need is a computer and a GPS unit. Tom gave us an interesting history of how Geocaching came into being in the year 2000 and spoke about how much it has grown. He says it is a great family activity, because everyone, especially kids, loves to hunt for "treasure".
Thanks Kathy and Tom for a all the information. It sounds like great fun!
