7/26 Rotary meeting
Sent: July 28, 2010
A nice crowd of 25 members met today for lunch. We welcomed guest and potential new member Lindsey Barnhouse, regular guest Russ Rittgers, and our speakers, Doug Kitchen and Shawn Maynard from Chieftain Biofuels.
Also in attendance today was Dan Dozer, newly transferred into our club from Whitehall-Bexley Rotary. Welcome, Dan!
LOTTERY
Lottery Master Doug Wells was in charge this week -- and we think we'll have to replace him! He allowed the "Table 1" consortium (Willard, McGreevy, Hutton, Reinhart, Stirn, Robinson and Snipes) to win the small pot of $22, and Steve Stirn promptly pulled the WINNING CARD for the BIG POT of $405 !!!!! So, next week we start over. Doug, are you sure you shuffled those cards?
SGT AT ARMS
Larry Kienzle made his first hit on the lottery winners ----- he took their $22 small pot as a fine! In the interest of saving time and pointing fingers, he then invited everyone who had anything to feel guilty about, just hold up a dollar and he would consider it a voluntary confession! He tookin quite a haul!
Happy Bucks: Doug Wells - $2-Nazarene Church is collecting school supplies and Century National Bank is a drop off point; Larry Menchhofer paid a buck because he didn't feel guilty about anything; Doug Wells was happy he had a good vacation; Dan Dozer was happy to be with us in Logan; Dave Snipes was happy to have had a great vacation in Myrtle Beach (do retired people take vacations? There whole life is a vacation!); McGreevy announced he was going to Ireland on vacation (and everyone wondered if they would let him come back); Jerry Hutton was happy to get about 3 seconds on Dateline on Saturday!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
T-shirts have been ordered and will be at next Monday's meeting. Enough people wanted polos that the cost is only $21.20 - call Jim Robinson ASAP if you want one -- they are ordering almost immediately!
Next Highway Clean Up is August 16th - mark your calendar!!!
Next week's program - Kathy Krumlauf
August 9th program - Marion Riggs
Dave Snipes was called to the front for his official "THANK YOU" from the club for his year of service as President. Having asked the Board to NOT buy him a placque, Robinson presented him with a replacement -- his own Rotary polo shirt! Very Nice!!
Next to be called to the front was new member Doug McFarland. He was officially installed as a new member, presented his member packet, and asked to give a short bio. Doug has been with Don Wood for 7 years and has recently moved to Logan to take over their location here as General Manager. His wife, Michelle, is currently employed at Citizens Bank here in Logan, but they reside in Lancaster (we need to fix that!). In addition to his gig at Don Wood, Doug also does sports commentary and commercials for Clear Channel Radio. Doug emphasized that he really believes in getting involved in the community and giving back. We're thrilled to have you as a member, Doug, and look forward to working with you.
PROGRAM
Doug Wells brought us a program by Doug Kitchen and Shawn Maynard from Chieftain Biofuels. Doug gave us lots of interesting statistics on the success of his company and their affiliations with national and statewide organizations that are pushing the use of biofuels. He even showed us some pictures of fueling up Willie Nelson and his entourage when they played at the Nelsonville Music Festival last year. Sounds as though things are moving along just fine, with new emphasis being given to working with a consultant to improve the management structure of the company. Thanks for the update to both Doug and Doug!
