6/28 Rotary meeting newsletter
Sent: June 30, 2010
A lovely day -- quite a bit cooler and less humid! It was a good day to get together for a luncheon.
Guests for the day included Russ Rittgers and speaker Susan Brewer from Nationwide Children's Hospital.
LOTTERY
Lottery Master Doug Wells was finally back "in the building" this week, and pulled out a ticket belonging to the consortium group at the table closest to the kitchen for the $16 small pot. By acclamation, Van Cardaras was selected to pull the card for the BIG POT of $366, but failed to find the right one -- so the pot grows!
SGT AT ARMS
Jim Rogers was once again pressed into service at the last minute, but he did a masterful job of robbing pockets! The lottery fine was due to be levied, but Van announced the table was donating all of the money back to the club.
Next came late fees fropm Kathy Krumlauf, Russ Rittgers, Scott Ratliff and Jon Mesarch; Steve Stirn left two dollars: on for having his picture in the paper and one for his "dine and dash" maneuver; Susan Aldridge got fined for having to move the program presentation to the beginning of the meeting (schedule conflict).
Jim brought back and oldie but a goodie and fined Dick Brandt, Damon Kuhn, Jon Mesarch and Jim Robinson $1 each for wearing logo shirts! He then got Mark Hamon, Doug Wells and Van Cardaras for neckties, and he capped off the day with a $1 fine for Larry Willard for "bad legs".
Happy Bucks: Russ Rittgers for his daughter placing in the top 10 of her division at the State Occupational Health and Safety meeting; Damon for his 22nd anniversary; Kathy for being able to attend a wonderful concert at the Presbyterian Church last Friday by the Ohio Choral; Doug in honor of his wife, Amy, receiving her Masters Degree; Jim Rogers for getting a wonderful weekend celebration with his family at Alum Creek in honor of Father's Day.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Bill Boone has decided to move his membership from Lancaster to Logan! We are thrilled to have him as a regular part of our Club and look forward to seeing more of him in the future.
Doug McFarland has also been accepted into membership in our Club. Doug is the General Sales Manager for Don Wood here in Logan. Look for his induction soon (probably July 12) and please introduce yourself for our new friend.
Board members are invited to be at the Brass Ring at 9am on Thursday for the Rotary picture in the HVCH Foundation golf tourney book.
Monthyly Board meeting for July will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at 5:30pm at the Home Tavern. Everyone is invited to attend.
No meeting on Monday, July 5th for the Independence Day holiday.
PROGRAM
We actually had our program first on Monday, because our speaker had a scheduling conflict. Susan Aldridge introduced Susan Brewer with Nationwide Children's Hospital. Susan is the Foundation Asst. Director for Annual Giving, and the liason that Susan Aldridge works with for Walmart funding for the Children's Miracle Network.
Susan Aldridge and the Logan Walmart store have been the statewide leader in fundraising for the Children's Miracle Network for many years. The conduct a variety of different fund raising events, the largest of which is their golf tournament. The best part of raising funds for this CMN is that all money raised in this area STAYS in this area, going to Children's Hospital in Columbus. The Logan Walmart raised $31,000 for 2009! Way to go!
One of the ways Children's Hospital has used these funds is the current expansion moving the hospital from 150 beds to 400 beds! This will certainly be one more reason to keep our Columbus Children's Hospital ranked in the top 10 in the country.
Thanks, Susan, for bringing us this interesting program!
