6/7 Rotary Newsletter
Sent: June 8, 2010
Summer has begun! A nice cool day brought out a nice group of Rotarians for the luncheon. We were pleased to welcome Russ Rittgers from the Hilliard Rotary Club and Dan Rosier from the Bexley Rotary Club.
LOTTERY
Larry Willard was the stand in Lottery Master today, and gave $13 to Russ Rittgers -- but there was no winner for the BIG POT of $336.
SGT AT ARMS
Jim Rogers was a stand in today, also, due to the absence of Larry Kienzle. On very short notice, Jim managed to do a good job of raising some funds: $3 from Russ for the lottery win; $1 from Van Cardaras and Larry Menchhofer for being late.
Happy Bucks were everywhere: Another $1 from Russ Rittgers for his daughter's 19th birthday; $1 from Bob Lilley on the impending (TODAY!) birth of his twin grandsons; Dave Snipes for his 41st anniversary; Jim Robinson for his 25th anniversary; Marsha James for her 28th anniversary; Valery for the cooler weather; Mark Hamon announced his vacation (he's not letting a litltle thing like a broken elbow get in his way, either!); LeeAnn Helber donated a $1 in honor of her husband's selection as LHS Basketball coach and the start of his first basketball camp this week! (Is she happy that he won't be around?); Kathy was happy that she had a Girl's Night outing to see "Sex in the CIty 2"; Jim Robinson was happy for a good experience at the state track meet, even though Logan's kids didn't do very well, especially his son Ralph; Jim Rogers threw in $1 for his impending trip to Hawaii, whereup Larry Willard added a buck because he was thankful Jim was going to be gone!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
At last week's Board meeting, the annual contribution of $1500 to Hocking Valley Community Hospital Foundation and Brighten Your Future were again voted for, as well as $150 to join The Logan-Hocking Chamber of Commerce.
June 20th is the Pancake fundraiser for GOBA. We need approximately 12 Rotarians to show up and work from 5am to 9am on Sunday, June 20th. All we have to do is serve and clean up! It's a great pay out for very little effort on our part. If you missed the sign up sheet, give Dave Snipes and call and let him know you are coming!
No meeting next week -- Highway Clean Up!! 16 Rotarians needed to complete the task completely and quickly, followed by fun at Pizza Crossing. If the weather is "iffy", come anyway. If we have to cancel, we'll still be at Pizza Crossing.
June 21st - Christy Bosch program
June 28th - Susan Aldridge program
PROGRAM
President Dave took over the program and gave us some interesting information on the Highway Clean Up program. We have new safety vests now and we are required to wear them. Gloves are recommended, as well as sturdy footwear. We are not allowed to cross the roadway (no collecting in the median). We are not to wear headsets/earbuds - need to be aware of what is happening around us. They also don't want us to pick up any hazardous materials (guns, needles, meth lab stuff). If we see anything dangerous, we are to call the authorities for proper disposal. Personal experience also makes me recommend a shot of Deep Woods OFF on each ankle to discourage ticks and mosquitos!
If you've never done a Clean Up, give it a try! We have a really great time, and you find some really unusual stuff on the side of the road! If you haven't done a Clean Up lately, mark your calendar to join us this time - June 14 at Kachelmacher Park at 5:15.
