In the absence of Lottery Master Doug, Jim Robinson took over as a last

PROGRAM
Thanks to Lucy Burcham for inviting Teresa Shoffner from the Red Cross to come and speak to us today. Teresa has been in our business community for many years in various positions, and it's nice to see her in charge of Blood Drives now.
Red Cross is responsible for 1/2 of the nation's blood supply. Unfortunately, it is a perishable commodity, and summer time brings with it a huge increase in demand for blood and blood products. Hocking County is part of the Central Ohio Region. This region supplies 41 hospitals, including several level one trauma centers. Last year the Region collect 210,000 units of blood plus 15,000+ units of platelets.
Blood is actually classified as a drug and is covered by FDA regulations. Even when you are in the hospital, if you need blood, your doctor must write a prescription for it.
Teresa said she has been very successful in holding blood drives in local schools. Even in the elementary schools, she holds contest for kids to get their parents to come!
The next local blood drive is scheduled for June 3 at the Olde Dutch Restaurant is a called their "O" Drive. There is a desperate need for type O blood this time of year because it is the universal donor.
Teresa encouraged all of us to step up and get involved by holding a blood drive in our place of business.
Thanks for the great program, Lucy, and thanks, Teresa, for doing such a good job.
