A beautiful day with lots of guests!
Joining us today were our regulars Bill Boone and Russ Rittgers; Sharon Conner, Dpt. Head of Dietary at HVCH was a guest of Kathy Krumlauf; Doug McFarland and Scott Smith from Don Wood Automotive and Keith Hood from Citizens Bank were guests of Larry Kienzle; Phil Lightfoot and Ken Fritz (Speaker) were guests of Doug Fisher! It was wonderful to have some new faces in the room!
LOTTERY
Lottery Master Doug Wells conducted the drawing, awarding he small pot of $17 to one of Larry Kienzle's guests. Because guests are not eligible for the BIG POT, it continues to grow!
SGT. AT ARMS
Larry Kienzle fined Doug Wells for "insulting" his guests and then fined Valery for newsletter errors (best be careful, Kienzle -- The pen, or in this case keyboard, is mightier than sword, the fine or anything else you might care to throw at me!);Jim Rogers was fined for whining about not having any money; Bill Boone, Russ Rittgers, Mark Hamon, Jim Robinson paid up for NOT being at the Pancake Feast; Andy McGhee was given the choice of a late fine or happy buck - he chose late this time; Susan Aldridge from Walmart was accused by Kienzle of trying to sell pre-cooked meat following a small fire in the meat cooler at Walmart; and Larry's guest decided to donate all the lottery winnings back to the CLUB! We need that guy for a member!
Happy Bucks: Kathy Krumlauf's Mom had a birthday; Dave Snipes turns 63; Valery's "baby" turns 28 this month; Geoff Grimes turns 25 (we can all start hating him NOW!); Doug Wells' son will be celebrating a birthday this month; Dick Brandt is celebrating his 42nd anniversary this month, Larry has a birthday this month; Lucy Burcham's daughter was selected as a majorette for LHS next Fall; Kathy Krumlauf paid a buck to thank Susan Aldridge for getting her a supply of Cracker Jacks for the her employee forums, and thanked Sharon Conner for all her help with the food order for the Pancake Feast; Dave Snipes paid a dollar to recognize Roger Hinerman for helping out with the Pancake Feast -- now we just need to get him back to our lunches! and Larry Menchhofer just paid a buck to marvel at how well the entire Pancake Feast went.
PANCAKE FEAST
Bob Lilley was thrilled with our performance this year. He said everything was cleaned up and returned to the hospital and he was back home in his recliner by 2:00pm. We served 430 adults and 67 children, which is about where we were last year. The 5/50 drawing for $257 was won by Cathy Allison -- the same person that won last year! The trick is to buy lots of tickets!!
He thanked Sharon Conner, as well, for her assistance in the food ordering, Ferrellgas for the donation of the propane for the grill and the American Legion members for donating the use of their hall. Their improvements in the hall were enjoyed by all, and really helped to make the event move better. Even the short rain storm didn't dampen things at all.
Next year's event is set for May7th! Mark your calendars - only your funeral is a reason not to be there!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
President Dave announced that the Board meeting this week will be on Wednesday to avoid conflicts with board members and election day.
Dave also announced that we will be losing Geoff Grimes. He has been transferred to the Atomic Credit Union office in Waverly. You weren't with us long, Geoff, but you were lots of fun! We will miss you, and welcome you any time you can drop in for a visit.
Jim Robinson is represented Rotary on May 4th at the LHS Scholar's Night to present our scholarship and the Harley Ellinger Scholarship. Thanks, Jim!
PROGRAM
Doug Fisher brought us an interesting and entertaining program! He introduced us to Ken Fritz, who is the insurance agent for the Health Department. Ken is an Ironton graduate and football star as well as OSU graduate and All American.
Ken has a rough start in life, being placed in the County Children's Home when his parents left, but eventually ending up with his grandparents. He was a typical kid - always learned the hard way, but when he discovered football, he knew he's found his ticket out of Ironton and to a better way of life.
Ken told us some wonderful "Woody" stories about his years at Ohio State, and the how the lessons he learned there has helped him through life.
Thanks, Doug, for inviting Ken and "thanks" to Ken for an excellent presentation!
