4/25 Rotary Newsletter

Sent: April 27, 2010

A dreary, drippy Monday still found lots of happy Rotarians gathered for lunch, fellowship and fun!

Mike McGreevy got the prayer right, but from the wrong location!  In front of the drink bar?  Keep trying, Mike!

President Dave welcomed regular guest Bill Boone today.

LOTTERY

Lottery Master Doug Wells was "in the house" today.  The small pot of $17 went to Marion Riggs (how does he keep wining so often?), but Marion was unable to pull the right card for the BIG POT of $252.  It's beginning to look like REAL MONEY!!!

SGT. AT ARMS

Larry Kienzle was back today, and went to work making money (didn't he do that in "another life"?).   He started with President Dave, hitting him for  a buck for FORGETTING THE FINING!  He also asked for another buck for the newspaper pic of Dave's granddaughter.

Moving on, he took two of Marion's lottery dollars, and tapped Jerry Hutton for forgetting to mention he was a Rotarian in the recent newspaper article.  At the urging of Hutton, Kienzle then went after Lucy Burcham, Logan Daily Editor, for not putting his Rotary status in the paper!  Lucy was not pleased, but Jerry shmoozed it over.

Doug Wells was fined for "delay of game" for the length of time needed to get the lottery drawing under way today.  And, of course, Larry got a dollar from the tie wearers:  Mark Hamon, Jerry Hutton, Jim Robinson and Jason Quier.

Happy Bucks:  Damon Kuhn paid for the privilege of announcing the win of his daughters basketball club team, and $1 for his first of the year Tailgate party at the OSU Spring Game!  He even had some members of the Hilliard Rotary Club show up.

Andy McGhee was give the choice of finding a reason to be "happy" or to pay a late fine - he chose to be happy to be late.

Kathy Krumlauf reported a great first effort for the Community Wellness Fair at LHS this year.

Jason Quier, absent for many weeks, was happy that his parents had been able to come and visit for the previous weekend.

Susan Aldridge was VERY HAPPY today -- she announced that the Logan Walmart store won the national award for the 6th year in a row for raising money for the Children's Miracle Network ($32,000!).  Also, she paid to advertise for her annual Golf Tournament at Pumpkin Vine Golf Course.  They still have openings!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

May 4th is Scholars Night at LHS and Jim Robinson will be presented the Rotary Club Scholarship and the Harley Ellinger Scholarship.

May Board Meeting is being moved!  5/4 is Scholars Night and Election Day, so the Board meeting will be moved to May 5, 5:30pm at the Home Tavern.

PROGRAM

Today's program was presented by Stephanie George from the Inn at Cedar Falls.  Unfortunately, there were some conflicts for her speaker, so Stephanie gave us a brief presentation about holistic healing programs available at The Inn,

They have 4 free seminars during the year presented by Mary Jo Ruggieri, PhD.  She invites everyone to call The Inn for more information on how to broaden your approach to wellness and health with some holistic efforts.

The District Conference is fast approaching.  It is scheduled for May 13-16, 2010 in Athens, Ohio.  Dinners, luncheons, golf tournaments -- lots of great activities for everyone.  For more information, contact Dave Snipes.
