2/1/2010 Rotary Newsletter
Sent: February 3, 2010
A small but happy group of Rotarians gathered on Monday. Guests for the day included regular guest Russ Rittgers from the Hilliard Rotary Club (nice to have you back, Russ!), Dan Dozer from the Whitehall/Bexley Rotary Club and our speaker for the day, Dale Campbell, from the Logan-Hocking Community Center.
LOTTERY
Mike McGreevy stepped in to conduct today's lottery drawing. The small pot of $14 went to the Damon Kuhn table consortium (second week in a row!), but they couldn't pull the right card for the BIG POT of $99. Thanks, guys, for donating the small pot back to the Club!
SGT. AT ARMS
In the absence of "Farmer" Kienzle, "Farmer" Rogers stepped up to take care of putting the group back in order. Late fines were levied against Kathy Krumlauf and John Smith; Valery, Doug Fisher, Jim Robinson and Russ Rittgers were found to be without pins and/or badges; birthday bucks came from Mike McGreevy (his), Ben Hollinger (one of his kids) and Kathy Krumlauf (one of her kids).
Happy Bucks: Ben Hollinger was happy that Hocking Cty. Dev. Disabilities Board has received their final occupancy permit for the old Green School bldg. and they will soon be moving! Susan Aldridge from Walmart was happy that fiscal year 2009 was OVER!!!! Valery was happy to be one week closer to vacation and that Kathy was going to do the newsletter in her absence; and Jim Rogers fined himself for almost forgetting to collect the lottery fine!

TODAY'S PROGRAM
Damon Kuhn brought us information on the new Logan-Hocking Community Center today. Damon is a member of their governing Board, and brought with him Dale Campbell, the new owner.
The new Board is working very dililgently to create a program of activities to offer to the community to aid in keeping our kids healthy and away from drugs. The Center is open from 8 am to 8pm most days (depending on the activity schedule) and is staffed primarily by volunteers.
The Center has a wide variety of activities available, including volleyball and basketball, gym/weight equipment, WII, ping/pong and computers. They have just received a grant to set up an archery program, so that will be available soon. Jurgies Karate studio is offering classes at the Center.
Along with the new owner and new programs, the old Armory is being given a face lift with new paint in more interesting colors, and the LHS Art students are in the process of creating and painting some murals, as well. They are working cooperatively with a number of groups and events to better utilize the space they have. The Prom Dress giveaway was recently held at the Center, and Kidsapalooza, Special Olympics and Toys to Share will be utilizing the space, as well.
Volunteers and donations are ALWAYS needed! They are particularly looking for persons adept at writing grant applications.
