11/30/09 Rotary Newsletter

Sent: December 1, 2009

It was a small but spirited group that gathered for the last Monday in November.  We included our regular visitor Bill Boone in our group.

LOTTERY

Lottery Master Doug Wells - MIA

The drawing was held without him, with Jake Hill taking the small pot of $11.

On December 14, if Doug shows up (with his new deck of cards) we will give Jake the opportunity to draw for the BIG POT of ------you guessed it - $11!

SGT. AT ARMS

Larry Kienzle went to work and started by collecting $1 from Jake for the lottery win.

He quickly followed up by pulling in over $10 for those who had not yet subscribed to the e-mail newsletter!  Steve Stirn paid the price for not having started his holiday shopping.

Happy Bucks came from Dick Brandt on the successful (though stressful) year end close for Logan Clay;  Kathy Krumlauf was happy to recognize her husband Mike for the newspaper article on the restoration of the Jeep he has completed; Valery was happy to have a new car!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The December Board meeting has been moved to Tuesday, December 8 at 5:30 at the Home Tavern.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Dave announced with regret that he accepted the resignation of Brian Starr.  He no longer holds the Serve Pro franchise and is considering other possibilities.

REMEMBER!!  Next Monday is the EVENING Christmas social at 6pm at Lee's Banquet Haus.  Things to bring:  your "significant other", your sense of humor, a "brown bag" auction item (for a Club fundraiser), an unwrapped toy (for Toys to Share) and hats/gloves (for the Klothes Kloset).  Looking forward to a great meal and lots of fun.

BIKE PROJECT

Joe gave us a brief update on the 2009 Bike Project.  He currently has collected 51 bikes toward his goal of 150.  He also has collected $908 in cash so far.  We have a ways to go to meet Joe's goal!

There will be work sessions this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, and the Posse needs all the help it can get.  They have lost 3 very valuable members recently and could use a little help in the "elbow grease" department.  If you have even an hour to spare, show up at Joe's workshop this week to help clean up bikes.  Take Rt. 180 south to St. Rt. 374.  Turn right and Joe's place is the first driveway on the left.  We need to have the bikes ready to go by the 16th for distribution on December 20th.

Let's all get off our butts and give the Posse some help this week!

PROGRAM

Today's program by Jason Quier didn't happen.

In it's place, Dave Snipes gave us all some information about Toys to Share that we didn't all know.

TTS was founded in 1983 and expects to serve approximately 225 families with 600 children this year.  Families are asked to apply and must meet income guidelines.

This will be the 5th year for the Bike Drive.  Bikes are given away on a random drawing basis.

This is a really simple and appreciated way to make this holiday season brighter for some of our local children.  Check the closets and see if there are any outgrown but still nice toys or stuffed animals that can be donated.  Don't have any?  Dollar General, Walmart , Family Dollar and Dollar Tree all have a wonderful selection of inexpensive, but fun and entertaining toys that you can chose from to make a child's day brighter.
