Nanette Swinehart, executive director of Brighten Your Future, spoke to the Logan Rotary Club regarding the history and success of BYF. For the 2018-2019 school year, 49 students received $1800 grants, and two students received partial awards! Funds are raised by donations and interest from the BYF scholarship fund. Grants are based upon financial need from the student's FASFA report. The Logan Rotary Club is proud to be an annual sponsor of BYF.

Shawn Fraunfelter spoke to the Logan Rotary Club today regarding Out of the Boat Ministry and the organization's focus. What started as a small group of men for bible study, has evolved into a group that takes the message of God with them as they assist local neighbors and youth when called upon. Most recently they became heavily involved in helping the recent flood victims. "The floods came on Thursday, we met on Saturday and decided we needed to help. All we did was show up." Shawn stated. Individual Rotary members are donating gift cards from Kroger/Walmart to help those who lost everything in the recent flood. Non-Rotary members can help too by dropping of a gift card to the Hocking Hills Chamber building by Friday 7/6/18.

Patrolman Devin Alford (left) of the Logan Police Department was the guest speaker at the June 18 meeting of the Logan Rotary Club. Alford, canine handler for the department’s new dog Bungge (center), informed the members regarding his responsibilities as handler, he and Bungge’s training, Bungge’s capabilities, and uses for those capabilities. The patrolman also answered questions and ended the presentation with a demonstration of the dog’s ability to find drugs. Rotarian Van Cardaras (right) was the program chairman for the meeting.

Logan Rotary President Jim Rogers is flanked by Connor Wells (left) and Lance Rinehart (right) who were the recipients of the 2018 Logan Rotary and 2018 Harley Ellinger Memorial scholarships, respectively. Wells will be attending Ohio University where he is enrolled in the ROTC program and plans to major in political science. Rinehart, a sophomore, is an illustration major at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. The Logan Rotary Club has sponsored both scholarships for many years.
